Girls Basketball Handbook
Every team has a real or identifiable personality or image. Our personality will be of a team that play HARD, TOGETHER, AND WITH ENTHUSIASM.
The cornerstones of our philosophy are discipline and enthusiasm. I believe discipline is getting our players to do the right thing and doing it that way every single time. To quote Lou Holtz, "Discipline isn't something you do to someone, it's something you to FOR someone." Also, I firmly believe that nothing great in this world was ever accomplished without enthusiasm.
On the basketball court I want our players to have the attitude that they will play hard, play unselfishly, and have fun. I believe that the game of basketball is an amazing vehicle through which to teach important lesson applicable in all areas of life. The game, when taught well, can teach hard work, discipline, competition, and passion. In today's society, in which wins and loses tend to the the clearest markers of success, it becomes all too easy to dismiss one of the crucial responsibilities of a coach: to teach accountability. I hold myself to the highest level of accountability to teach and model that value to my players, and in turn they will hold themselves accountable to self and teammates. If we can accomplish this we are building the foundation of a successful basketball team. I believe in a up tempo style of basketball with an emphasis on a fast break offense and aggressive man to man defense and with full court zone pressure. We will always evaluate and adjust our playing style to fit our players.
Players must fit into one of the following categories.
Be a senior with no unexcused absences .
Play in 25/80 regular season varsity quarters and finish the season in good standing.
Practice gear – Players will be purchase practice gear (tops and bottoms). It is their responsibility to have their gear at all practices.
Uniforms – Players will be issued uniforms on the day of the game. At the conclusion of each game, players will change and turn their uniforms back in to the coaches.
Travel Gear – Travel gear will be purchased by each player. It is designed to be worn on days we play away games.
Shoes – We will not have a “team” shoe. Everyone has a different financial situation and everyone’s comfort level is different. We prefer that you buy shoes that are school colors (green, white, and/or black). Fit and comfort are the priorities.
Players choice = lose playing time at coach’s discretion
Unexcused = miss the following game
